BCG has a best-in-class team of coaches dedicated to coaching and training our Associates, Consultants, Project Leaders, Principals, Partners and Alternative Business Models (ABM) cohorts (as required). This “Coaching Faculty” is a unique opportunity to build next generation people development capabilities within BCG; experience the satisfaction of coaching and teaching; and continue to differentiate BCG's value proposition to our people. This team also serves as Faculty for several Regional Trainings.

The L&D Manager and Coach role is a temporary, 12-month position responsible for coaching and training non-MDP client-facing staff. This includes: (a) providing coaching to Associates, Consultants, Project Leaders, Principals, Partners and ABM cohorts (as required); (b) facilitating high quality, impactful training; (c) identifying development needs across cohorts; (d) working as part of the NAMR Coaching Faculty team to develop new and improved offerings; (e) working to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the coaching team and (f) working on special projects as defined by the NAMR L&D and PTO Prioritization Committee.

Key clients of this role include Consulting Team staff and local office leadership. This position will work closely with the Head of North America Coaching Faculty, other Coaches and with members of the broader NAMR L&D and PTO Team.


1:1 Coaching

The most critical component of this role and the largest allocation of time is to provide one-on-one coaching to Associates, Consultants, Project Leaders, Principals, Partners and ABM cohorts (as required). Coaching candidates will usually be identified through CDC/PDC process or may be self-referred or referred by case leadership. Types of coaching may include:

Core consulting skills (e.g., structuring analysis, developing a workplan, designing a model)

Communication skills (e.g., slides and storylines, meeting management, internal case communication)

Leadership skills (e.g., people development, project management, client relationships)

Sustainability and managing stress and confidence in Consulting Team roles

Interpretation and action planning based on CDC/PDC and/or upward feedback

Coaching Offering

Work with members of the NAMR Coaching Faculty to identify and execute ways to evolve and expand the coaching offering in order to meet the ever-changing needs of the business

Identify new coaching needs and develop programs to support (e.g., Group Coaching, Inclusive Leadership Coaching)

Serve on Coaching Faculty sub-teams that support the efficiency and effectiveness of the Coaching Offering and Team (e.g., Marketing, Platform support, Learning Activation Coach Partner)


Ensure high quality, high impact delivery of training programs
Serve as Facilitator/Faculty for trainings delivered in local System offices (as needed), as well as assigned Regional Trainings (Consulting Foundations, Project Leadership Foundations, etc)
Experiment/pilot new training offerings (as defined by Prioritization Committee)


For Coach Partners, team with the Learning Activation Leads to support the local OLs, Business Management Directors, People Team leadership, and CDC Heads in people development related initiatives

Perform other duties as assigned or required by the NAMR L&D Director or Head of North America Coaching Faculty


BS/BA required, MBA or advanced degree (PhD, JD, MD) preferred

Consulting background, PL or Pr level (management experience); deep understanding of our target audience's needs and skills associated with consulting role

Position implies ~10% travel to lead trainings and provide coaching, attend system and/or NAMR L&D and other People Team meetings, etc. This type of travel is highly predictable and scheduled far in advance. Full week travel to host regional trainings or attend BCG conferences may be required 2-3 times a year.

Demonstrated experience/ passion for people development and training (e.g., strong upward feedback – particularly around people development and apprenticeship, former presenter, champion for trainings)

Strong credibility with senior consulting staff and office and system leadership

Ability to put oneself in the shoes of participants or presenters and understand their needs

Relentless focus on customer and business needs

Strong listening skills – ability to ask the right questions and help others uncover underlying issues, drivers, and path forward

Intellectual agility, problem solving, ability to focus on big picture and on detail, analytical skills and decision making

Ability to leverage creativity and training expertise to design learning experiences that fit audience need

Excellent project management skills, including multi-tasking across projects and teams and ability to plan long term and adjust last minute

Proactive, self-motivated, sound judgment and “get it done” attitude

Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, at all levels of the organization, including senior leadership – ability to build credibility fast

Comfort presenting and facilitating with both small and large groups

Effective influencing and teaming skills, in a networked environment and within virtual teams

Ability to interact and team effectively at all levels of the organization, including most senior and most junior

Ability to handle confidential performance and HR information with professionalism and confidentiality

Comfort with resolving people-related issues
